I’ve been doing affiliate marketing successfully since 2007.
In March 2009, I quit my job as a government worker to do affiliate marketing full-time since I was consistently making more online than the monthly check I was getting from them.
I’m from a small island in the Caribbean called St. Vincent and the Grenadines, by the way. That is proof that you can make money with affiliate marketing from anywhere in the world.
How I Got Started in Affiliate Marketing
My affiliate marketing journey started in 2005. I was completely new to the internet when I saw an ad in Small Business Opportunity magazine. This ad was for something called Google Cash, which was basically pay-per-click marketing using Google and affiliate offers from Clickbank.
Following the method, I made my first affiliate commission of $29 about a week after I started and I was hooked.
I struggled for about a year trying different things, making a few sales every now and then. I was missing something but didn’t know what it was.
In January 2007, I joined a site called Wealthy Affiliate which promised to teach step-by-step how to build an affiliate business the correct way. This is when I found the missing piece of the puzzle.
My mistake was that I hadn’t picked a niche or did any research at all. I was just looking for offers on Clickbank and creating ads (the incorrect way) and wasting my money on ads.
I learned how to use Google to get organic traffic and that was when I really started making money with affiliate marketing.
In 2009, I quit my job to do affiliate marketing full-time since I was consistently making significantly more money online than what the job was paying.

Beyond Business – Who is Jay?
Outside of the online world, I’m a father of two – a boy (10 years old) and a girl (2 years old). My goal with affiliate marketing is to make sure that they always have what they need.
I have some interests and hobbies that include:
- playing pool (I’m really good)
- playing chess
- sample hunting (listening to music and figuring out the samples used) see WhoSampled.com for context.
- fishing (I haven’t done this in a long time).
These hobbies keep my grounded and relaxed especially pool, which I’m very passionate about. They help me to balance out my personal and professional lives.
